This quote comes from the movie The Godfather Part II. In this scene, Michael Corleone is accosted by one of his old school friends, Fredo. Fredo was trying to extort money from Michael’s father, but when he was rebuffed, he upped the ante and threatened to tell the police what Michael had done in the past. When Michael told him that “goodness had nothing to do with it,” Fredo laughed and walked away.
Michael made it clear that his father would not stand for any violence against him. That’s what he meant by goodness having nothing to do with it.
